Young People, Sexting and the law-Information for Parents and Guardians
Dear Parent/Guardian,
A 16 or 17 year old in your care has expressed interest in participating in a UNSW focus group that will discuss the legal and socio-cultural aspects of sexting.
(‘Sexting’ refers to sending and receiving sexual or naked images via mobile phones and/or online.)
Research participants will be asked to attend one group discussion in which recent sexting media and education materials will be reviewed and discussed. Participants will not be asked to give personal stories or information, but will respond to existing media and discuss what these media say about young people, technology, sexting and the law.
The focus groups will take place in Parramatta and at the UNSW campus in Randwick, and will run no longer than 1.5 hours. Participants will receive a $50 gift voucher for their contribution.
If you consent to his/her participation, please contact UNSW Research Assistant Paul Byron by phoning 0416 685 682, or emailing paul.byron@unsw.edu.au before May 25.
Your consent is an essential condition of this research, and both you and the focus group participant will need to sign the Information and Consent forms downloadable from this site.
This project has received Ethics approval from the Human Research Ethics Committee at UNSW (reference number HC12050).
