Media Monitors - Magazine tickles readers' noses

A REPORT by Media Monitors and the University of NSW's Journalism and Media Research Centre, analysing sport and gender in the Australian media, has won an international award. Towards a Level Playing Field, which was commissioned by the Australian Sports Commission, won the gold medal for Best Use of Communications Measurement: Public Sector (PDF) (185 Kb) at the AMEC awards in London. The research found female sport receives far less coverage than male sport, with horseracing receiving more air time than all women's sport combined on Australian TV.
